Hari Raya in Malaysia: A Time of Joy, Togetherness, and Open Doors ✨🌙

Writer: EzlynaEzlyna

Selamat Hari Raya from all of us at Malaysian Link Whether you are celebrating or simply observing from the sidelines, this is one of the most beautiful times of the year to be in Malaysia. Streets are lit up with colourful lights, homes smell of fragrant cooking, and the air is full of warmth and generosity.

So, what exactly is Hari Raya?

Also known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, it is the grand celebration that marks the end of Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslims. It is a time to forgive, reconnect, and rejoice with family, neighbours, and even strangers. Malaysians take it to heart with open houses, endless feasts, and a spirit of unity that cuts across race and religion.

If you are an expat in Malaysia, you are likely to receive an invite to a Rumah Terbuka or open house. Do not be shy. Go and experience Malaysian hospitality firsthand. You will be greeted with rendang, lemang, satay, ketupat, and an endless flow of kuih, which are traditional sweets. The dress code? If you want to join in the fun, wear a baju kurung or baju Melayu, but it is not compulsory. What matters most is your presence.

For those who are away from their home countries, Hari Raya in Malaysia can be a comforting reminder that celebrations, even far from home, can still feel personal and inclusive. You will see friends embracing each other after prayers, children giggling as they collect duit raya, which are little green envelopes filled with money, and communities coming together over shared meals.

At MalaysiaConnect, we love helping our clients experience Malaysia in meaningful ways. This festive season is no exception. If you are keen to understand more about Hari Raya traditions, how to navigate open houses, or even where to find the best Raya clothes or kuih in town, just give us a shout. We are always happy to share what we know.

From all of us at Malaysian Link: Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Maaf Zahir dan Batin. Wishing you peace, love, and full tummies.
